2016 Pinot noir Estate 1.5

The 2016 growing season was warm and exceptionaly beautiful with warm temperatures and bud break April 1 and bloom in early June. followed by flower on June 4 with an excellent fruit set.

The warm summer temperatures with seasonal heat spikes were tempered by cool nights leading to verásion in July. We harvested our Pinot Noir vines under clear skies on September 11.

Harvested September 11, 2016, this wine was fermented in two-ton fermenters and then moved to barrels, 30% of which were new French oak. It was aged in barrel 10 months and bottled August 28, 2017.

Our 2016 Fairsing Pinot noir represents the entire 42-acre vineyard and contains fruit from across our rolling hillsides. Selections included in this bottling; Wadenswil, Pommard, Dijon 777 and Dijon 115 with final alcohol of 14.5%.

Robert Brittan left Stags’ Leap Winery in Napa after 16 years as Winemaker and Estate Manager to fulfill his dream of making Pinot Noir and Syrah from unique sites in cooler climates. He completed his education at UC Davis and moved to Napa Valley, where he made wines for Far Niente, Saint Andrews and Stags’ Leap Winery.

With over 40 years of experience growing grapes and making wine, he brings a significant amount of viticultural and winemaking knowledge. Robert began making wine for Fairsing Vineyard in 2012 and feels that Pinot noir and Chardonnay lend themselves to many wonderful interpretations, depending on the soils and microclimates where they are grown.
